Frente a la decisión gubernamental de dar por tierra con la iniciativa de conservar el crudo en el subsuelo en el YASUNÍ, en los campos conocidos como ITT, ISHPINGO, TAMBOCOCHA, TIPUTINI, y comenzar a extraer petróleo, la organización de jóvenes YASunidos lanzó la iniciativa de exigir que la decisión se adopte a través de la Consulta Popular, como lo establece la Constitución. La propuesta cuenta con un fuerte apoyo y ha dado lugar a una gran movilización, en procura de juntar 600.000 firmas de ciudadanos ecuatorianos que harán posible la consulta popular.
