Luta contra as monoculturas de árvores

A busca de lucro pelas empresas impulsiona a apropriação de terras para estabelecer monoculturas industriais de árvores. Onde as plantações industriais se enraízam, as vidas e os territórios das comunidades são violentamente invadidos, suas florestas são destruídas e suas águas, poluídas. Quando as comunidades resistem, as empresas tendem a responder com agressão. Apesar dessa violência extrema, comunidades de todo o mundo resistem, se organizam e unem forças em defesa de seus territórios. Todo dia 21 de setembro é comemorado o Dia Internacional da Luta contra as Monoculturas de Árvores.

DRC: President of Tshopo provincial assembly supports demands of communities affected by oil palm company PHC

The president of the Tshopo provincial assembly supports the call of international NGOs demanding to pause a mediation process between the oil palm company PHC and communities affected by its oil palm plantations. Since 2018, the mediation has not addressed the communities’ demand for investigation of the (il)legality of the concessions at the basis of the companies palm oil business but has led to increased the violence and put community rights at the plantation sites in Lokutu and Boteka, in neighbouring Equateur province, at risk.

(Apenas em inglês) On 1 April 2024, eight representatives chosen by communities from Lokutu, in the Tshopo province of the DR Congo, to represent them in the mediation process with the oil palm company PHC presented a letter rejecting the outcome presented by the mediation.

DR Congo: Undermined by violence, a development bank mediation process requires immediate government action

Four years ago, nine communities from the DRC filed a complaint with the Independent Complaints Mechanism (ICM) of three European development banks financing the oil palm plantation company PHC. The complainants were seeking a resolution to a long-standing land conflict. Since the complaint was filed there has been an escalation in the number of community members who have been imprisoned, beaten, raped and even killed.
